I read about geo-fencing for targeted local marketing, how can I do it?

Geo targeting allows for banner ads to only show in specified locations usually defined by postal designations such as state, city or zip code. This type of targeting is fairly unreliable as it usually tries to map a users IP address to a postal zip code. This creates a large area that often doe not match the geo targeting criteria and results in wasted ad spend.

Geo-fencing uses much more precise latitude/longitude coordinates to define a very specific area, down to a few city blocks. Unfortunately this precision requires devices that support providing these coordinates in real time. Generally mobile phones are the only devices that reliably support geo-fencing.

In order to target ads using geo-fencing you need to use a DSP (demand side platform) that supports this type of targeting. Check out or both of which support geo-fencing.
